american cousins

anyone remember when this little number was all the rage on broadway?

matt and i were so excited to see it here in london - authentic acccents, the west end, original cast memebrs. it was going to be magical. so when my american cousin came to town, we snagged some tickets and prepared ourselves for an outstanding evening of modern musical delight ...

and then we saw billy elliot...

we decided, we like his american cousin billy madison WAY BETTER. i could be REALLY pretentious and give a litany of reasons why it let me down (weak chorus, mediocre dancing, etc) but i'll just say:  in the end, it felt like we were in the small mining town from county durham put on a play.

so for anyone traveling to london, hoping to add a west end musical to your sightseeing list, do yourself a favor, and stick with les mis.

Yeah, I went with my parents in NYC last year and I was pretty underwhelmed. Kind of disappointing after all the hype!
