work in progress

it's no secret that i wish i had the know-how of little green notebook, this caitlin, or this one ...

their talents FAR exceed my own, but here's what the lybberts in london are living in. keep in mind it's a work in progress. the walls are next. virtually everything (i mean EVERYTHING) was purchased on ebay and bartered down. so far i've done the entire room for less than it costs to buy a new sofa!

before
(all we had left was the cruddy coffee table and the glass top dining table when we arrived. for anyone moving to london, i HIGHLY advise you to let a furnished flat, unless you're on the receiving end of a generous ex pat package!)

and a few afters:

the cruddy coffee table got a facelift, and now i kind of love her.

mama bear is still working her sewing magic on some pink and black trellis throw pillows. can't wait for those to arrive. in the meantime, i'm trying to decide if i want to recover the dining room chairs in black to make them fit the room a little better ...

it's starting to feel more like home. in fact, we're kind of loving it, aside from some natural frustrations (the computer / emotional meltdown, how EVERYONE follows the rules even if it's NOT the best/ most efficient thing to do, how the $ means less and less each day, and that fact that my besties/sisters/stella don't actually live HERE)

tomorrow, we're having a bit of a celebration at our house. one eldest lybbert brother has a birthday coming up. i'll do my best to photo document.
