Lessons in Upholstery

This weekend Ashley and I undertook a DIY project - a reupholstered chair.
We started at 3:00 pm and were still going at 11:30pm.
and didn't finish.

We found these on KSL

{and worked and worked...}
.

{here it is at present}

We learned some lessons along the way:
(take note for your next project)

  • you will always underestimate the length of DIY project

  • well-made furniture is NOT the best thing to try and re-do for a few reasons (so buy the cheap stuff)

  1. it was done right the first time

  2. pulling apart something that was put together well is tres difficult

  • ABC and Twinkle Twinkle are the SAME tune

  • upholstery glue is the BANE of our existence

  • fingers that type all day long aren't really made for manual labor

  • the "crocodillo" - our patented technique - is quite effective in the ripping and removal of staples

  • which reminds me of our next learned lesson ... staples are NOT nails

  • mcdonalds french fries are IRRESISTIBLE

  • sometimes no matter how badly you want to finish, it's better to go to bed and revisit it another day

  • if you are doing a project with a friend, maybe you should pick the same colors and fabric, that way at the end of the day, you don't have fabric envy. you just have the same cute chair.

  • babies LOVE coca cola

{this is my fabric}

i am sitting her giggling to myself over these "notes." please don't forget that shamelessly flirting with a German man named Harmut at Home Depot in hopes of convincing him to cut our next DIY project is COMPLETELY acceptable.

For upholstery tips, call Grandma T. That woman has re-upholstered more furniture than anyone I know. Even at age 73, she is still re-doing furniture.

You are so talented! I love this. Can I commission you to come do some DIY projects at my place??

the chair looks cool, you know I always approve of green as a color choice

this will blow your mind even more: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, The Alphabet Song AND Baa Baa Black Sheep are ALL the same tune - how did you not realize that before?

Ditto to all of the points...e.g. I got the sudden and unexplainable urge to make a paper origami F-15 to put in a shadow box -- cuz hubby likes plans and I wanted an excuse to watch Bones on hulu.

The 1-hour youtube video turned into a 4 hour project, probably because I ignored the instructions about the correct paper (wasn't cute enough) and substituted with my own cool paintbally/scrapbook paper. It did get finished and hung with pride, but I was chagrined to explain the DIY to husband, to say the least.
