In The Heights

I can say with a fair level of confidence that I'm a Broadway aficianado.

( aficianafo: having seen multiple Broadway shoes, including Phanton at least 7 times, owning endless soundtracks and being able to sing along to an average 50% of show tunes* as defined by me.)

I mean, I've seen a few shows in my day ...

Rent
Phantom
Annie
Guys & Dolls
Phantom
Jesus Christ Superstar
Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat
Spamalot
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Phantom
Miss Saigon
Les Mis
Mary Poppins
Wicked
Phantom (did I mention I saw this one A LOT)
The Drowsy Chaperon
Chorus Line
42nd Street (about 42 times- student tickets!)
Into The Woods
Shrek
Mama Mia
Beauty and The Beast
Hairspray ...

and so on and so forth.

And tonight Matt treated me to the musical delights of
IN THE HEIGHTS.

And all I can say is
OFF THE HOOK.

I laughed out loud.
I choked back tears.
I felt like part of a secret club of acronyms and inside NYC jokes.
I sang along.
I cheered.
I sighed.
I wanted to learn to Salsa.
And I want to go back.

As someone who actually LIVES in The Heights, I can tell you that it really is a very accurate portrayal of life here--people dancing everywhere, spontaneously breaking into song, etc. ;)

Glad you had fun!

I just came across your blog and this post made me so happy :) I was getting a ton of crap this morning for listening to "show tunes" (I dared to post a song from Wicked on my Twitter)...who can resist people breaking into song?!
I hadn't heard of this show yet...now I'm intrigued!

I LOVED it too. We saw Lin-Manuel Miranda on the A train the other day and I was so star struck.

p.s. I had to let you know that you inspired me do to 30 day shred. It's kicking my butt but I can see a difference already.

I saw that last time I was up there. A-MAZING. And recommended by the one and only Steph Sonk. She does good work.
