The Olympics

you may or may not know that 4 years ago i weasled my way into the TOC (torino olympic committee) and spend 2 wonderful months living and working at the Olympic games...

it was a dream. we were based at the US headquarters in the Torino Olympic Village we rubbed elbows with athletes, had all-access passes to every event, and sat front row at concerts and medal awards (and nightly firework shows). fortune smiled upon us.

here are a few favorites from my 2 months in Torino...

1. While attending long-track speed skating heats, we made friends with some kind men from Holland. Who proceeded to invite my friend Melissa and me to join them in Amsterdam the following weekend - an all expense paid trip, compliments of our new friends. We declined. (but in retrospect maybe i shouldn't have...) And happened to run into them 3 nights later at a $350 13 course meal at Torino's premier restaurant. don't ask how we got there. i thought the 5 $ signs in the guide book mean a $50 meal ...

2. Heading down to Piazza Castello every night for medal ceremonies, front row seats to Kelly Clarkson, Ricky Martin, Duran Duran and Andrea Bocelli, and the fireworks.

3. Stumbling upon the Today show in one of the city's piazza's - chatting with Al Roaker, and seeing Andrea Bocelli from 5 feet away. (Gianni the guest chef wasn't too hard on the eyes either)

4. Carrying the Italian flag in the practice for the Opening Ceremonies

5. The cute blond (pictured above) weaseedl us 4 tickets ($1500 / each) to Opening Ceremonies - Luciano Pavarotti and Susan Sarandon.

anonymous... while i actually appreciate your candor (and agree that blogging can be a self-agrandizing endeavor) i have to disagree with you here. but i sure i do love the olympics. if you'd like a list of self-loving bloggers, i'll gladly send a list your way.
